How high do I hang art?

Framed art is usually hung at eye level. This means that the center of the painting should be at the same height as where your eyes are located if you were standing straight up, which is about 5 feet from ground to the center of the painting. You can never hang art pieces too low. Some people will even line their floors with framed artwork (really big pieces are best if you’re doing it this way). However, most people generally make the mistake of hanging them too high, which can look funny. Take note that the 5 feet rule is just a starting point as you can hang art lower than eye level (4 feet) if you’re putting them over a sofa, hallway bench or your bathroom toilet bowl. Hanging art lower also creates the illusion of having a higher ceiling.
